A masterpiece, of the highest quality, in the “dark fantasy” style, on a monumental scale. In the foreground is a mortal Slavic woman, kneeling in deep sorrow, dressed in an antique traditional folk costume, a patterned linen shirt, a heavy woolen coat, and a headdress known as a povoynik. Her hands are raised to her chest in a desperate gesture of supplication, and a tear rolls down her cheek. Before her lies the body of the deceased, wrapped in a traditional shroud. Morana, the ancient Slavic goddess of night, winter, and death, towers majestically above them, accepting their prayer. Morana is a monumental figure with pale skin, wearing a snow-white, heavy gown with silver geometric embroidery and long, flowing sleeves, as well as a rich dark cloak trimmed with thick dark fur. On her head she wears a magnificent kokoshnik, adorned with precious stones and long strands of pearls framing her face. Morana’s hands are raised to her waist, palms facing upward, as she accepts the prayer of a mortal woman. Heavy snowflakes fall slowly from the dark, starless sky. In the background, ancient wooden pagan idols with glowing red eyes are visible—the guardians of the entrance to Nav.
